Biography 略歴 |
【荒木十畝(1872~1944)】 長崎県大村市に旧大村藩士・朝長兵蔵の次男として生まれる。本名朝長悌二郎。 中学時代から「琴湖(きんこ)」の雅号で制作を始める。 1892(明治 25)年に荒木寛畝に弟子入りし、木寛畝の娘・鈴と結婚。 後に荒木家を継ぎ、荒木十畝と名乗る。 寛畝流の余白美を活かした伝統的な様式や画風を受け継いでいたが、寛畝の死後は自らの理想とする花鳥画を追及、 装飾的で極彩色な世界へと作風を変化させ、当時の画壇において花鳥画の十畝としての位置を確立した。 その後、「東洋画は精神的で西洋画は物質的である」との考えから、『朝』『牡丹』のような明暗濃淡描法を生かした幽玄で精神性の高い作風へと変化させた。 帝展などの審査員も務め、同じ頃活躍していた横山大観らと並び称された。 Born in Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture. His real name is Teijiro Asanaga. Began creating works under the pseudonym "Kinko" when he was in junior high school. In 1892, he became an apprentice to Araki Kanpo and married his daughter, Suzu. He later succeeded to the Araki family and took the name Araki Juho. He inherited the traditional style and painting style of Kanpo, which utilized the beauty of blank spaces, but after Kanpo's death, he pursued his own ideal of flower-and-bird painting,After his death, he pursued his own ideal of flower-and-bird painting and changed his style to a more decorative and colorful world, and established his position in the art world of the time as the Juppo of flower-and-bird paintings. Later, based on the idea that "Oriental painting is spiritual and Western painting is materialistic," he changed his style to a more ethereal and spiritual one that utilized light and dark shading in works such as "Morning" and "Peony. He also served as a juror for the Teiten Exhibition and was admired along with Yokoyama Taikan and others who were active at the same time. |
